‘Kroma’ Desk / Table by Antonia Astori for Driade, Italy, 1980s

Designed by Antonia Astori for Driade, the ‘Kroma’ table is a quintessential expression of Italian postmodernism — bold, architectural, and immaculately balanced. The design pairs a crisp white top with finely striped edges and cylindrical terracotta-red legs resting on sculptural, concentric metal bases.

Astori’s composition feels both graphic and serene: a dialogue between geometry and color that captures the optimism of the 1980s Memphis era, yet retains Driade’s characteristic refinement and intellectual rigor. The result is a functional work that stands as both furniture and sculpture.

About the designer
Antonia Astori (1940–2023) was one of Italy’s most influential architects and designers, co-founder of Driade in 1968 alongside Enrico and Adelaide Astori. Known for her visionary approach to modular living systems and her belief in design as “a discipline of harmony,” Astori’s work blurred the boundaries between architecture, furniture, and art. Through Driade, she helped define a uniquely poetic form of modern Italian design — intellectual yet sensuous, rigorous yet human.
